Comments: And Five Years Later...

Well lets see, there are peace keepers in Kosovo and there is peace in Kosovo. So you think what, that we should pull the peacekeepers out? 'splain Lucy, cause' I don't get it. For over 50 years we've had peace keeping troops on western Europe (the're called NATO) and ever since then we've had peace. Would you have considered the Kosovo war a more noble venture or success had there been more US troops killed? If so then you must think our current dust-up in Iraq is the greatest thing since the Invasion of Normandy.
1) Not even you know what the outcome would have been had MacArthur been allowed to bomb China. But I think you have to admit that it may have kicked off Nuke-you-ler (by the way should'nt the man who has his finger on mankinds ultimate weapon be able to correctly pronounce it) war. The goal of the Korean war was containment of communism and it did just that. It was in short a success.
2&3) Again, I gotta say, I don't get the whole I'm a conservative and I'm pissed off about vietnam. Had Goldwater been president do you think that Vietnam would have come out any different? Vietnam was something this country was destined to experiance. Again the goal was containment. It failed miserably. But it was the conservatives who were beating those war drums the most ferverently.
4) Well thank you Mister Obvious. How very kind of you to push those hind sight eye glasses of yours up on your nose and tell us how great it would have been had Clinton taken out Bin Laden. From what I'm hearing, Bin Laden and the like, were'nt exactly on bush's front burner either, until after the attack.
Despite your percieved lack of success in the Democrats war record lets all just remember that the Dems. never attacked a country under false pretenses. Before you repubs. start telling the Dems how bad we are at war lets see how you get us out of our situation in Iraq.

China did not develop nuclear weapons until the '60s. Also, although this was not clearly understood at the time, the Soviet Union would not have attempted to ally itself with China over a minor US incursion.

Finally, let's all remember how Jimmy Carter used to pronounce "nuclear". It's a southern thing, Jerry; I was in the Naval Nuclear Power Program and can attest to this first-hand. You haven't lived until you've heard a guy from West Virginia mention a "NuKULar Chayyyn Reaction".

When any politician tries to micro manage a war it becomes a problem. Leave the fighting to the experts. The president of any country needs to say to his military chiefs " Here is the problem and here is what I want to accomplish.". He can say I don't it to go nuclear and that's about it. Of course there are always negotiations between countries during a conflict. Leave that to the politicians. I know this sounds a little broad but I'll leave the details up for debate.

"It's a southern thing"? You mean southern connecticut?

G.W. may not have been born in my home town of Midland Texas but he was raised there. So yes, it is a southern thing as Matt put it.
